For parents of seniors:
I’m Going to College – Not You!: Surviving the College Search with Your Child by Jennifer Delahunty (paperback)
I just came across this – was recommended by “The Colleges that Change Lives” newsletter – website (CTCL.org).
It is a compilation of essays on the college admission process and sounds like there is a fair amount of humor poked at us as parents. I checked around and it has received good reviews – is helpful and lessens the stress around the whole topic.
For parents of juniors: (and students if they will read it)
Looking Beyond the Ivy League: Finding the College That’s Right for You
By Lauren Pope -also author of Colleges That Change Lives book (both in paperback)
I like both of these books, but Looking Beyond the Ivy League is broader in that it focuses on important factors to consider when looking at schools and does not spend as much time on the 40 featured schools in the CTCL’s book. If you and your student like the ideas presented, you can then check out the CTCL website or book.
Harvard Schmarvard – Getting Beyond the Ivy League to the College That Is Best For You by Jay Mathews (paperback)
Similar message to the book above but with more of an overview of the steps involved in the college search and admissions process.
